Arhus, Denmark 2009

Our port time was supposed to be 10-7. We got in at 10, but all aboard was at 5:30. We had decided to make it a more laid back day and walked off the ship to wander our way to Den Gamle By. It's another fine example of an outdoor living museum.

First we came upon the Arhus Cathedral which was beautiful. We paid a few DKK to climb the bell tower and the bells went off while we were up there. Beautiful! Saw the Concert Hall and lots of sites as we wandered to the open - air museum. You can take local transportation if you don’t wish to walk.

We spent several hours here. Lots of people dressed in local dress and all were more than willing to share their “stories”. We pulled ourselves across the water in a little boat. OK, Greg pulled us. When we got to the end we realized it didn’t go all the way and we worked really hard to figure out how to get all the way across. Finally, the guy that loaded the boats signaled that we had to pull ourselves back from where we started. He had quite a laugh. (us too) Took a Clydesdale pulled carriage ride around the park and popped into most all of the buildings. Had a nice lunch there and later some pastries at the local bakery.

There is a nice Botanical Garden right next door, but we thought we had seen it when we saw the small one in the park, but later other people told us you had to exit the park to get to the one next door.

After a wonderful day we wandered back on a different route before going back to the ship.
