Naples, Italy – Apr 9

Naples, Italy – Apr 9

We have been to Naples before and we visited Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast. This time I booked a tour to Capri with www.rosatoprivatetour.com. Niki was very easy to correspond with. Of course, she dealt with the canceled world cruises due to covid and the change in ports from Sorrento to Naples with no issues.

We were joined today by Cathy & Tom, Bob & Phyllis, Roberta & John, and June. Paola was our guide and she met us at the ship, and we walked to the ferry terminal and got the ferry to the small island of Capri and Anacapri. She accompanied my group and Heather’s group, and we met Heather’s guide Etore on Capri. Our groups went our separate ways, but we shared a bus to and from Anacapri and had lunch together. The whole day went flawlessly. I swear we saw every inch of the island by the time Paola was done with us. It was too windy to take the Blue Grotto boat tour, so we started with a walking tour of Capri.

Then we boarded the bus to Anacapri on the famous “
Mamma Mia Road or OH MY GOD ROAD!!!” to Anacapri, the second largest center of the island where we took the chairlift to the highest peak of the island, Monte Solaro 589 meters above sea level. It was a single chairlift and lasted 10 - 15 minutes one way. Along the peaceful ride we got spectacular views of the Gulf of Naples, the other lower peaks, the houses, and villas scattered in the green countryside, the vineyards and olives groves on the coast, the peninsula of Sorrento, Mt. Vesuvius, Ischia and Procida, the other islands of the bay of Naples. There were also some well landscaped yards with cute things to amuse us along the way. There were also some advertisements with large bottles of perfume or olive oil, very cute.

After we came back down, I went and did some quick shopping before lunch. We had a nice lunch outside where we all had over-priced meals. (the island is a playground for the rich and famous) I had the rack of lamb and Greg had a calzone.

After lunch we went for another short walk before heading back down to Capri for our boat ride around the island. They showed us the spot where the Blue Grotto boats would have loaded, and it was choppy and underwater. So, they substituted the boat trip that we took, and it was a great option.

After the boat ride we had a limited amount of time before we had to catch the ferry back to Naples, so we grabbed some gelato. Pretty good.

Our guides left us at the ferry terminal as all we needed to do was get off in Naples and our ship was just a short walk away. The ferry was packed. We had time to walk into Naples and maybe grab a quick pizza, but the weather was cold and windy, and we opted to just get back on the ship.

We ate upstairs and then went to the show which was billed as Violinists Duo Esencias presents The Rose, but he was a violinist, and she was a flamenco dancer. What a great show!

Then it was early to bed for our early wakeup for Rome!
