Niagara Falls – Ontario, Canada – August 4

Niagara Falls – Ontario, Canada – August 4

We drove to the Falls and parked in the same parking lot as yesterday. We then proceeded to walk to Canada! We got to the Rainbow Bridge and went past security and walked the bridge past huge lines of cars waiting to go through immigration. The views of the Falls were great from there. We stopped to get our photos on the border line. At the end of the Bridge was immigration and we showed our passports and answered a few questions and off we went to see the Falls from the Canada side.

Much like Iguazu, there are more Falls viewing areas on one side (Argentina & USA, but the iconic views of seeing the total Falls are on the other side. (Brazil & Canada) So, the later doesn’t take as long to see, but the views are just the best.

It was much calmer on this side with way less pushing and shoving. It also was very pretty on the Canadian side with lots of pretty gardens and flowers.

They also were having an Indian Festival called iMela - Bhangra at the Falls. There was a South Asian Music Festival and Dance Competition in Victoria Park. We didn’t really see any of that, so not sure where it was going on. Mela is the Indian name for a social gathering or a fair traditionally held across many parts of the country. It can vary from religious, commercial, cultural, sports related or solely for entertainment of communities. Melas bring different cultures and communities together where various traditions and rituals are celebrated.

After walking around the Falls, we walked around Clifton Hill which is a street with tons of the tourist traps. Many chain restaurants were there and lots of adventure places for kids and adults alike to enjoy.

It was getting close to lunch time but eating at a U.S. chain restaurant didn’t sound appealing and all of a sudden, I noticed a Beaver Tail shop. I started chanting Beaver Tail, Beaver Tail. I thought Greg didn’t hear me, but he was heading straight for it. We decided to eat dessert first and worry about lunch later. YUM!

Hey Jim, I found a moose!

Bananarama - chocolate hazelnut sprerad & bananas

We walked about some more and then headed back towards the falls to have lunch at a café with a great view of the Falls. We both had flatbread pizzas which were good. We relaxed for a while and then went back a short way back to a fudge shop where we picked up a slice to take home.

We then walked back to the States. It costs a $1.00 to use the bridge and it’s collected on the way back. Getting back through immigration took a long time. The line was moving quickly until we were 2 people away from getting up to the agent. There was an Indian Family there that were detained for a long time before they finally walked them away somewhere. We finally made it through and walked back to the car to head home.
