Brunswick, GA to Port St. Lucie, FL - September 17

Brunswick, GA to Port St. Lucie, FL - September 17

Today, wasn’t as long a drive and we were checked into the Residence Inn by 3:00.

our familiar boarder sign!

We stopped in the Daytona area for BBQ and it was REALLY good.

 Colt's Pig Stand

We got “moved in” and the first thing we did was go check out the house. Mainly, we wanted to make sure the windowsills were in since the window covering people would have to be rescheduled it they weren’t. They were and the door was ajar, so I popped in for a quick look but we aren’t supposed to be in it without someone there with us, so it was a fast look. The tile is all in and counter tops, shower walls etc. Our appointment is the 19th so we will have some time to really check things out and get some photos.

Tomorrow, we are going to Vertical Village to get a head start on the selections tomorrow and check out more furniture options.

Ok, the first year we RV’d we went past Pedro’s South of the Border and we didn’t stop. So, this time it was our mission to check out the tourist trap. The signs start over 100 miles away and there are tons of them. Scott, a bit like “The Thing”, you feel obligated to check it out. It isn’t quite as well done as Wall Drug out West, but it is fun to check out.

South of the Border means just south of the South Carolina border after leaving North Carolina. We knew the food at the main restaurant was 3* at best and that was all we were expecting. Despite sounding like it’s a Mexican restaurant, they serve all kinds of food and not very much Mexican and definitely not particularly good Mexican food. We both had the enchilada platter and it was dry and not all that tasty.

I think for a family with kids it would be fun since they have a campground, a hotel with indoor and outdoor pools, amusement rides, Reptile Lagoon, arcade, fireworks, 5 restaurants and 7 gift shops. It was fun to stop and take photos and just enjoy the "camp" and the kitsch. All the trappings of a good “tourist trap”.

So, since we had to endure all the signs so do you……and I only took a few of them.

not a Pedro's sign, but we are back in the South

Back on the road, we got the border sign and then just in case you drove by Pedro's accidently, one last sign.

Tomorrow we will be back in Port St. Lucie.
