Cape Cod, MA - September 3

Cape Cod, MA - September 3

Cape Cod - Massachusetts meets the Atlantic at Cape Cod and offers around 500 miles of beautiful white sandy beaches. The Cape Cod coast is protected by the Cape Cod National Seashore, which ensures that the coast here has remained largely unchanged since the early 19th Century.

Today we made the long drive (about 2.5 hours from Rhode Island) to visit the Cape. We first stopped to do some birding at Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary part which is part of the Audubon Society. We walked the Goose Pond trail which was around 1.5 miles. Very easy terrain, but we didn’t see a lot of birds. It was a lovely walk on a lovely day.

We headed to P.J.'s Seafood for “lobsta”. We both ordered the lobster special which was a 1¼ lobster & a cup of New England Chowder and corn on the cob. All was good, but the lobster was a bit over-cooked. The best lobster we had was in Maine at a lobster pound – tender & sweet. (Jim, I know you aren’t surprised that Maine would come out on top) I think it would have been really good, if they hadn’t over-cooked it. It was good anyway and anything dipped in butter is good.

After lunch we went to Providence The Highland Light is an active lighthouse on the Cape Cod National Seashore in North Truro, Massachusetts. The current tower was erected in 1857, replacing two earlier towers that had been built in 1797 and 1831. It is the oldest and tallest lighthouse on Cape Cod.

Then we drove to the beach for some birding, but not much there. After driving around the area we went into Providence for some ice cream and to walk around the quaint town. Reminded me a lot of Key West.

this is for you Jennifer! (I'm always tormenting Jim with ice cream)

It was late afternoon and we headed for home.

In today’s mail we got a letter from our builder saying that the cabinets have been installed in the house. That means that the house could be done in 45 to 72 days. So, since it’s earlier than expected, we are cutting our road trip short by 2 weeks. We had planned to spend a week in the Williamsburg, VA area and we have totally cut that out. Then we chopped a few days off of each of our next stays to shorten another week. We are leaving Rhode Island 1 day earlier than planned and we shortened CT and NJ as well. Just hitting the most important things since we normally build in fill in things like extra birding or just spreading out what we want to do over more days to go at a slower pace. (helps if we have rain delays) So, now we are going full speed ahead. (less time to work on the blog)

We need to make sure we have enough time to get lots of things ordered before we move in. Window coverings will be first on the list to schedule. We have already picked out a lot of things, it’s just a matter of ordering them or picking out something else if what we chose is no longer in stock. YIKES!

Tomorrow, we are doing the Cliff Walk & the State Capitol.
