Charleston, WV State Capitol Building – July 28
Today, was basically a day off. We stayed in this morning
since the Capitol didn’t open until noon. No tours are offered on Sundays, so
we toured the complex grounds which were nice. The Capitol is undergoing some
renovation, so most of it was closed to the public. It probably is the most
stark one we have visited. The only “art” was a collection of paintings of all
the governors. It had the feel of a dungeon with lots of different colors of
marble used together. It may have been more interesting with a guide telling us
the history and it would have been nice to go up into the observation tower for
the views. It took less than a half an hour to tour.

We headed for home with a stop for ice cream at Ellen’s Ice
Cream shop. I thought I had picked a winner and ordered the Chocolate
Explosion. One might think it was full of chocolate. It actually was full of
coffee beans in a very bland chocolate. I don’t like coffee. (and unfortunately
it was full of the beans) Ah well, they all can’t be winners.

We shopped for some groceries and headed back to the hotel.
Tomorrow we are visiting the New River Gorge.
