Shenandoah NP & Blue Ridge Parkway - VA - July 6

Shenandoah NP & Blue Ridge Parkway - July 6

We left about an hour before lunch as we planned on eating in the Shenandoah NP. We drove a quicker route to pick up about where we left off driving Skyline Road with just a few miles of overlap.

We stopped at the Dining Room of Skyland for lunch Skyland’s Pollock Dining Room serves wonderful regional specialties with farm-to-fork flavors and sumptuous views of the Shenandoah Valley.  And considering the elevation of Skyland, it’s only natural that Mile-High Blackberry Ice Cream Pie is a house specialty! We also host annual holiday buffets.

I had Sweet Potato Tots Poutine and Greg had a Pulled Pork Sandwich with Sweet Potato Tots

We took a slice of chocolate decadence cake to go which we enjoyed a couple of hours later at a viewpoint.

We did see a couple of bucks just after lunch. I got a quick shot of one before they both ran into the trees. We drove to the end of Skyline stopping at the various viewpoints and arrived in Waynesboro, where we checked into the Residence Inn. (much nicer than the one we just left)

We got settled in and then did some grocery shopping. We came back and had dinner and then went for an evening drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway in hopes of seeing some critters. We saw a couple of deer, but still no bears. We stopped at a crowded spot in hopes of a beautiful sunset, but it was a dud. We reflected on a few of our favorite sunsets and our number 1 is definitely Ayers Rock & the Olgas (and the sunrises were awesome there too) with number 2 being Table Mountain.

Yikes! that should keep the crows away

We bailed on the sunset that never happened and went back to the hotel. A couple of years ago in the RV we did a different part of the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Tomorrow, we are headed to Natural Bridge State Park - Virginia.
