Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge –
Milton, DE – June 30
Today we drove across the border into
Delaware to visit Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge. In the morning we hiked
the Boardwalk Trail and the Dike Trail. (we did part of one of them twice so
about 2 miles) Easy hikes, but not a lot of birds. There were a few seagulls
and some gulls, but not close enough for great photos. Tons of Red-winged
Blackbirds and Robins.

We stopped for lunch at Po’boys
Creole & Fresh Catch. Very good lunch today. I had the shrimp Po’boy and
Greg got the crab cake Po’boy.

After lunch we went back to Prime
Hook and hiked around some more. We did part of the Black Farm trail and then
part of the Blue Goose Trail and then did the Boardwalk loop again.

When we were done hiking, we drove to
the town of Lewes. Lewes proudly claims to be "The First Town in The First
State." We had some ice cream (surprised?) and then drove to the beach
area. It was crowded with people out enjoying the lovely hot sunny weather.
Pennsylvania and Delaware are both
new states for me. Delaware is new for Greg. It as late in the day and we drove
home for a late dinner.
Tomorrow, we are staying in Easton to
drive to Chesapeake Bay and then do some birding at the Pickering Creek Audubon
Center.
