Ijams Nature Park – Knoxville, TN - July
13
We planned a half day out today since
rain was predicted for the afternoon.
This was a very popular park and was a
bit crowded. We did a couple of the trails and they were fairly easy terrain, though rocky in spots.
We saw just a few birds (none really wanted their pictures taken). There weren’t
any water birds at the lake which was a bit strange.
It was another of those
kinds of places that the sounds of nature were shouting adults, screaming
children and barking dogs that have to smell you as they go by. The terrain was
rocky in places and very slippery. I don’t know how some of the kids racing by
didn’t fall and hurt themselves as they raced on down.
Some of the trail was under
construction so we had to backtrack instead of making a loop. The last part of the trail where we turned around was a boardwalk along the river.
Downy Woodpecker - there was a family of them in one area

It is a pretty
park and there were other areas we could have hiked if the weather was more
cooperative.
It was lunch time and we hoped the
Mexican place that got good reviews would erase the memories of yesterday’s bad
food. It was called SoKno Taco Cantina. We both got platters that came with fiesta
rice, cast iron beans and chips with choice of salsa. We got 2 carnitas tacos
and 2 beef tamales so we could have 1 of each. YUM!
We went grocery shopping and then
grabbed some ice cream. As predicted, it POURED!
Tomorrow, we are visiting The Great
Smoky Mountains National Park.
