Columbia, SC to Charleston, WV - July 27
The Devine Cinnamon Roll Deli is a great name. Not only are
they truly “devine”, the name is really because they are located on Devine
street. (hence, the spelling of divine)
On our last trip, we liked it so much we went back for lunch
one day and each of their yummy sandwiches comes with a mini cinnamon roll.
(which was the size of a normal roll anywhere else.)
They are made with a special Hawaiian sweet bread recipe. They
have a special cinnamon sugar blend, and vanilla butter whipped cream cheese
icing which really makes them great!
The line inside to order was constant and eventually spilled
out the door. We both felt they weren’t quite as good this time around. (just
less cinnamon, they still were very good) We got 2 to eat there and took 2 to
go and we had them for dessert.

We stopped in Elkin, NC to have lunch at Southern On Main
restaurant. The restaurant was southern comfort food with a modern twist. It
was really tasty. I had a grilled cheese made with pimiento cheese, cheddar
cheese, bacon & tomato with sweet potato fries. Greg had a pulled pork
sandwich with sweet potato fries.

We passed out of Georgia and into North Carolina and then
Virginia and then into West Virginia. Our drive was quite slow today. No reason
that we could see. There were no wrecks, construction or stopped cars. Just the
occasional cork in the road that backed traffic up for miles and then, all of a
sudden would clear up and go smoothly again just in time for it to back up
again. It took half an hour to go 12 miles. On the bright side (literally) it
didn’t rain all day.

We finally made it to Charlotte, WV and checked into the
Residence Inn in time to have a later than usual dinner.
On the road you see some pretty funny things. We passed a
car wash that was named Dirty Boys Car Wash, which was right next door to an
adult “toy store”. We passed a septic truck that had a logo on the back saying
“we take care of what you ate yesterday”. Then, we crossed over a bridge over
Barium Creek. Not swimming in that!
Tomorrow we are visiting the capitol building.
