Easton, MD to Manassas, VA - July 2

Easton, MD to Manassas, VA - July 2

Today we had a short travel day, so we left about an hour before lunch and crossed over William Preston Lane Jr. Memorial Bridge (aka Bay Bridge) What an awesome bridge over the Chesapeake Bay.

 Sandy Point State Park

We had planned to have lunch at Ego Alley after checking out the yachts. Ego Alley is not an alley, but more of a walkway. It's a narrow waterway that spills out into Spa Creek. The name "Ego Alley" comes from the lineup of expensive boats that parade through the waterway on evenings and weekends. While there were a few there on this day, it wasn’t spectacular by any means. We have seen some pretty posh marina. (Antibes in the South of France with yachts large enough to have 2 helicopters on board) It still is a lovely area and we had a fun lunch at Pip's Dock Street Dogs. I got the “Wit Whiz” Cheesesteak and Greg got a Kraut Dog. We walked around the area and checked out the Navel Academy there. We stopped for desert at Sofi's Crepes where we split the Nutty Banana crepe. (Nutella and sliced bananas) YUM!

Jim, does your cat still bring you Hibiscus flowers?

We didn’t take time to tour the Capitol, but we drove around and got some quick outside photos.

We continued to Manassas, VA via the outskirts of DC and arrived at the Residence Inn after 3:00. Our room wasn’t ready, so we hung out in the lobby for a long time. They first offered us one on a lower floor and said we could move the next day. Uh, NO. We travel with a fair amount of stuff and we get settled in and not easy to just move. Then, after more time elapsed, they offered us a 2 bedroom instead of the 1 bedroom we booked, but we weren’t sure if we were going to extend our stay or not and we didn’t want to move if we did. So, we waited for our room to be finished. When we got in the elevator to go up to our room, a maid got in the elevator with us and she was crying. (perhaps management gave her a hard time?) UGH!

We got our pre-drywall walk-through date and it’s the 24th of July. Our supervisor guestimated the second week of July, so we organized our travels based on that. We now have more time to kill, but we decided not to extend here. It’s an older Residence Inn and is smaller than our last Fairfield. Just like RV parks these hotels all have their plusses and minuses.

Tomorrow, we are visiting Shenandoah National Park.
